FamousFlamenco Phrygian ChordFlamenco
The home chord of flamenco in the por arriba position, where the Phrygian cadence (Am, G, F, E) comes to rest
An open E major chord with an F squeezed in a half step above the root, plus a D on top. The F is the flat ninth: it comes from the Phrygian scale on E, and its crunch against the E and G♯ is the sound people hear as Spanish. In flamenco played por arriba this is home, the chord the F and the rest of the cadence fall back to.
Also called Flamenco E, Spanish chord, E with F, Phrygian dominant chord, E(♭9), E7(♭9)
